To compile and run your java programs on command prompt you have to set the path to your jdk correctly. For this tutorial I will use jdk version 1.6.0.

To set your path follow these instructions:
    - Open you command prompt (if you don't know how to do this check this tutorial http://goo.gl/UP84j)
    - Change your Directory to the folder your java programs is located using change directory command. ( cd\name of folder)
    - Set the Path to your JDK using the command - set path=%path%;location of your jdk
Eg set path=%path%;C:\program files\Java\jdk1.6.0\bin and click enter key. Then you can compile you program. Note: Your version of jdk can vary you must locate the folder to be sure.
