The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on the University council to remove Prof James Adelabu, the Vice Chancellor of the tertiary institution or be ready to face the wrath of ASUU.
Dr Clement Chup, the UNIABUJA ASUU Chairman on Sunday signed a statement rejecting the VC’s allegations in a media interview that ASUU in UNIABUJA was all about “sharing of money’’.
The academic union also threatened to embark on an indefinite strike over the Vice Chancellor’s comment.
It stressed that the VC’s comment was a malicious lie meant to misrepresent issues regarding the formula being used in disbursing revenue generated by the university’s Centre for Distance Learning (CDL) programme.
“By the formula, a little percentage goes for the honorarium of participating lecturers by way of allowances, and this is a universal practice,’’ it said.
The statement said that ASUU’s position was clear on the allegations of corruption levelled against the VC, which he found difficult to defend.
It said that the union had blamed the suspension of some of the university’s faculties on the inability of the VC to sustain the faculties which he inherited from previous university administrations.
The statement said that ASUU had, therefore, pronounced a vote of no confidence on Adelabu’s administration, while calling for his removal in the interest of the university’s peace and progress.
