| My husband and I are renovating a 108-year old Queen Anne style home in the Museum Hill District of St. Joseph, Missouri. Trying to whip a three-story house of its size and condition into shape is a trying task, and sometimes we find ourselves both mentally and physically exhausted from the sheer amount of labor involved. Then too, innumerable and unexpected complications arise nearly every day, and any form of progress is painfully slow. Perhaps to some people, this endeavor would seem mad, but this old house has a load of character and many wonderful qualities that are worth saving, and we're determined to make it a home and preserve something of man's history in the process. Along the way, we've found that there are many lessons to be learned in restoring an old house, which are worth sharing. |
