Motion is the change in position/location of an object with respect to time. Change in Motion of a body is caused by an applied force. There are various types of motion.
i) Linear Motion: is change in location with time (motion) along a straight line, and can therefore be described mathematically using only one spatial dimension. It can be uniform, that is, with constant velocity (zero acceleration), or non-uniform, that is, with a variable velocity (non-zero acceleration).
An example of linear motion is that of a ball thrown straight up and falling back straight down.
Circular Motion: This is motion along a circular orbit or path. It can be uniform, that is, with constant angular rate of rotation, or non-uniform, that is, with a changing rate of rotation. Eg The motion of a gramophone record on the turn table.
Vibratory/Reciprocating Motion: This is to and fro movement of an object, repetitive up-and-down or back-and-forth motion. Eg The string of a guitar or violin vibrates when plucked.
Random Motion: Continuous motion of a body in all directions. Eg Random movement of particles suspended in a fluid 06 August 2010Comment
